Vascular Doppler Ultrasound

Vascular Doppler Ultrasound is an effective and painless way to examine blood flow through the arteries and veins. This advanced technology gives Dr. Corrielus the ability to detect a blockage in the arteries, which may be caused by inflammation, a blood clot or plaque buildup. Therefore, a vascular Doppler ultrasound represents a valuable diagnostic tool that can not only tell us the current condition of your heart, but also help us assess your risk for more serious heart problems in the future. If abnormal blood flow is detected, we can often recommend conservative treatment measures that can restore proper heart function and help you avoid any dismal consequences of blocked arteries.

At Corrielus Cardiology, we are known for our unique approach to cardiovascular care. Our Philadelphia center is led by a skilled non-invasive cardiologist who focuses on integrated medicine to foster optimal heart health and improved overall wellness. We offer a number of non-invasive cardiac testing services so that you can receive an accurate diagnosis with respect to your safety and comfort.

Blood Flow Testing

Vascular studies are non-invasive procedures that test blood flow, and they can be performed in a single office visit. A transducer (handheld wand or device) is placed on the skin at specific locations and angles. The transducer emits sound waves and records the echo as the waves bounce off blood cells within the vessels. These reflected waves are then amplified and used to create real-time images on a computer monitor. The rate of blood flow is depicted on a graph for more precise measurement. By assessing the amount of blood that is pumped with each heart beat, Dr. Corrielus can gain a better indication of the size of the vessel opening and determine if there is a blockage present. Vascular ultrasounds can be used to evaluate arteries in the belly (Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound), in the neck (Carotoid) or lower extremities.
