Discovering Places That Make Your Heart Come Alive

Julie Andrews best demonstrates the way a particular place can transform your heart and make you feel alive. Do you recall the scene from The Sound of Music where she’s twirling, arms wide open as if she’s hugging the hills surrounding her while the hills give her the gift of life back to her? It’s a beautiful scene and one that many of us long for and resonate with.

The hills are alive with the sound of music..

The hills fill my heart with the sound of music

My heart wants to sing every song it hears

My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds

That rise from the lake to the trees

My heart wants to sing like a chime that flies…

To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls over

Stones on its way

I go to the hills when my heart is lonely

I know I will hear what I’ve heard before

My heart will be blessed with the sound of music

And I’ll sing once more”

Is there a place that transports your heart to a joyful happy place? When was the last time that you’ve been there?

As we reflect on fueling our joyful heart, a big part of this can happen when we seek places of peace, joy and love. The place is important to get to, but the journey there should not be neglected in the process.

As you consider ways to get to the places that fill your heart, make the journey there count! Take a traveling companion with you if it makes your journey more satisfying. Can you arrive at your place by foot? A little hike or adventurous walk to your destination is good for your heart. If you’re traveling by car to your favorite park in the city, park far away and consider adding a long stroll on your way to your favorite park bench.

Places that fill our hearts do not need to be far away. They can be in your own back yard or just down the street. Here are some great places to consider.

Embrace where you live. Let it speak to you and help you fill your heart with joy. Visit those places often and take others with you along the way.
