There are times when patients may feel heart-related symptoms, but they don’t always occur in a predictable manner. This can make it difficult to diagnose or evaluate your symptoms during a regular clinical visit. In such cases, an event monitor may be suggested. An event monitor is a portable device worn by the patient that can assess symptomatic arrhythmias at the exact moments when the patient feels symptoms. Once the characteristic symptoms appear, patients can push a button on the event monitor and activate the device to record and save information about your heart’s rhythm during that episode. This allows Dr. Corrielus to gain better insight as to what is causing your heart-related symptoms and determine whether or not further testing may be necessary.
Cardiac Event Recording
Cardiac event recording is designed to capture your heart’s electrical activity during moments or “events” that you are experiencing cardiac symptoms. This typically involves an EKG reading when patients feel that their heart is beating too fast or too slow or when they experience dizziness or lightheadedness. In some cases, a cardiac event recording can help determine how well you are responding to a certain medicine. Cardiac event recordings are either stored in the device memory or sent directly to Dr. Corrielus. Event monitors are a non-invasive and risk-free means of measuring your heart health as you go about your daily activities. They are especially beneficial for patients who have heart-related symptoms, but do not experience them everyday or in predictable patterns.
