The connection between heart and head | Heart Health and Mental Health

Mental Health Awareness

Heart Health and Mental Health both are vital for survival. Mental and heart health issues are interconnected. For years, doctors did not believe in it. But after years of research and study, it is proven that both directly affect each other. In recent years, people have started prioritizing their mental health. It includes a person's psychological, emotional, and social well-being. Mental Health can be both short-term and long-term. Stress, depression, trauma, and anxiety all affect your heart. If you think a human heart only pumps blood, then you are wrong.

There is a strong connection between a heart and a head because both are linked together. Wellness is not just physical but also psychological. Stress and depression affect your blood pressure.

If you are wondering, "What is the connection between heart and head?" Then here is the answer for you:

Depression and Heart Health:

Are you feeling down for a little while? Are you sad and irritated? A feeling of emptiness and worthless are all symptoms of depression. A depressed human feels fatigued and has trouble concentrating. If you don't have that zest for life anymore, then you are probably depressed. Depression is common in The United States. I often see depressed patients and now facing heart diseases. Depression and heart diseases are interconnected and interdependent. A person with no history of depression can also get depressed after a heart attack. And a percentage of depressed people get heart diseases. There is a two-way relationship here.

Don't sweat depression is curable. Lifestyle habits that come with depression are what cause heart diseases. Feeling of tiredness, fatigue, smoking, and low energy all affect your blood pressure and cause heart diseases in the longer term. We do screen tests during your first visit for coronary heart disease. I make sure to test my patients and check whether they are depressed or not. Improving one's mental and heart health is necessary for me. If you wish to learn more, then click here.

Anxiety and Heart Health:

Nowadays, even kids face anxiety. In this modern world, anxiety prevails all. But how do we get rid of it? How do we diagnose it? There are multiple symptoms of anxiety. It is more than just stress. Are you feel worried all the time or have difficultly calming down? If you are, then you are anxious and probably facing anxiety. Don't just avoid situations that give you anxiety. People suffering from anxiety often have panic attacks and have recurring thoughts. There are many physical effects of anxiety, such as sweating, shivering, rapid heartbeat, faintness, and difficulties in breathing. No matter what the cause is, there is always treatment available for anxiety. I believe in self-care and preventive healthcare. Trust me when I say this. You can get better with time and guidance.

Anxiety is a bad seed, and it affects your heart health a lot. Honestly, it can take a toll on it. The worst thing which happens because of anxiety is panic attacks. In layman's language, it is a mini heart attack. Short of breathiness, palpitations, chest pain, the surge of stress hormones, and endorphins all raise your blood pressure. It strains your heart, and the effect is long-term. If you are anxious, then the strain is on your heart directly. Younger generations are prone to panic attacks. According to research, later in their life, they can face severe heart diseases. If you already have cardiac disease and you face anxiety, then this combination can be life-threatening.

You must try to remain calm and stay positive. For that, you can try exercising, dancing, meditating, and maintaining a healthy diet. I believe in mindfulness and the art of living. With that, I educate my patients on the path of positivity.

Your actions affect your mental and physical health. The connection between a head and heart is interdependent and interlinked. There is no escape. People with deteriorating mental health are more prone to heart diseases. And that is a fact. Start making lifestyle changes, and for that, you need to pull up your socks. I believe in follow-up care. You must seek treatment if you have these symptoms of depression and anxiety. If not cured, then these mental health problems can become terminal and long-term.
